DescriptionSmall half-cylindrical shaped box with a flared lip around the base. The back is flat with three rectangular loops. The body of the box is inlaid with staghorn (antler) with intricate floral and spiral patterns. The top of the silver lid is etched with birds of prey surrounded by vines and spiraling floral designs. There is a strip of silver down the front center of the box, which includes the lid’s button, used to open the patron. The back of the box is carved staghorn with overlapping scalloped shapes, with two pieces of exposed wood, a square in the center of the back, and a rectangular strip of wood above the flared base. The bottom of the box is also inlaid with a frame of overlapping leaves and other designs including pomegranates, circles, and spirals.Provenance
