This slab combines a glazed and unglazed form with simple, naturalistic decoration. David Shaner’s minimalist shape of a square with a circle mimics painting and sculpture from the 1960s and 1970s. He also refers to traditional ceramics in its decoration. The lines with leaves are based on Shoji Hamada’s spontaneous design of grasses.
