Richardson Rome, an artist and dude wrangler (horseback guide), was intimately familiar with cowboy life. Just Thinkin’ of You evokes an introspective moment, perhaps after a day of riding dusty trails. The darkness created by passages of black ink isolates the cowboy from the world. It obscures everything except the crackling campfire and the tree against which he leans, leaving him alone with his thoughts. This woodcut’s title makes us think, too. Who is the “you” about whom this cowboy is thinkin’?
