DescriptionThis tea bowl features the Raku style, a thick and deep bowl supported by a small base. It features a body with a rolling contour, a casually encircled rim, and a rough exterior wall with unfinished clay paste. The surface texture blends with burnt spots. The interior bottom of the bowl is molded with a whorl, wherein the jewel-tone, light-green glaze accumulates. The potter's signature is incised on the exterior, near the bowl base. The tea bowl is packed in a wooden box, in which the lid bears the inscription, signature and seal of the artist.Gallery LabelThe Japanese artist Tanimoto Kai takes full advantage of the chance elements that happen within the blazing environment of a kiln. In this Iga ware tea bowl, the thick-walled vessel has been fired in high temperatures that cause intriguing patterns of scorch marks.
