DescriptionOn the left: Image of two men dressed in suits lighting pipes. On the right: Image of two men (same men as in left image) seated at a table with a bottle, raising their glasses to toast.
These two quarter plate daguerreotypes are housed in brass mats with nonpareil opening with simple dotted trim inside of a single Union case. The case is adorned with an image of cupid holding the horns of a wounded stag; flowers and birds surround them.Gallery Label
These playful scenes, depicting two men posing with pipes and drinks, were originally conceived as a pair. At some point since their making, the two plates were separated and sold individually. Acquired for the collection from different sources in 1997 and 1998, the two daguerreotypes were reunited in what appears to have been their original presentation case.
