DescriptionPainting depicts in flat, blocklike patterns, a man wearing a dark grey-green suit and blue shirt. The forms of his body and clothing are outlined in black. The image is cropped, such that only the chest and a portion of his head--painted pink--are visible. He bares three, giant teeth. The figural form is set against a light grey ground.Gallery LabelIn Particular Aspects (Two), Carroll Dunham has created a grotesque caricature of a businessman. The radically cropped figure fills the picture plane and is boxed in by its edges. Teeth bared and body parts dislocated, he conveys a sense of both power and panic. The emotional charge is palpable. Dunham is an expressive painter, well versed in the lessons of abstraction. The taut structure, bold lines and gritty paint in this work underscore its internal tensions.
