DescriptionThick, round, flaring ceramic platter with heavy lip and foot ring. Opaque cream glaze. Stylized, large, contour drawing of a leaping hare incised across interior with incised lines representing blades of grass around the periphery.Gallery LabelKen Ferguson blurred the boundaries between that which is traditional within the vocabulary of ceramics and that which redefines the language of ceramics. The function of Ferguson's platter remains, but the true focus lies in the spontaneity and animation of its design. As a jackrabbit prepares to bound from the surface to which it is grounded, its powerful rear legs push off the rim and its long ears stand at attention. The incised contours of the hare's muscular body and the random diagonals bordering the platter enliven the clay's surface with a kinetic energy.
