DescriptionThe object is a low-fired, hollow, brick-shaped ceramic piece. There are repetitive-stamped designs arranged in five registers across the top or front surface. Diagonal rope designs in very low relief decorate the sides of the piece. No trace of pigments is seen within the recessed lines of the designs, but there does appear to be a black pigment on the high areas of the designs to highlight or delineate the designs and make them more "readable". This dark coloration may also have resulted from rubbings taken of the designs. Root marks are present on the top surface. The tiny black dots visible on the surface are probably a manganese-based mineral.
