DescriptionStraight-sided silver coffee pot. The upper part of the body is decorated with flat chasing; below the decoration on one side is a crest (dog and crown?). The low domed cover is decorated to match the upper body and is surmounted with a turned knob. Plain octagonal spout; scroll-like wood handle.Gallery LabelThis well-proportioned vessel is a study in contrasting elements successfully combined to form a visually interesting yet harmonious design. The angularity of the tapered body with its octagonal-shaped spout creates a dichotomy with the double-scrolled handle and domed lid. The starkness of the plain silver surface is relieved by the delicate shell and scroll motifs rendered in flat chasing, a low-relief decorative technique.
