Gallery LabelIn Chinese opera, male military characters usually have their faces painted with colorful patterns. Face-painting offers information about the characters being portrayed, such as their identity and temperament. Here, the standing figure with a white-and-red-painted face is a young warrior. He defeated a senior general, whose face-painting is a different pattern. The print is one of a pair to be pasted on door panels or hardwood furniture.
