DescriptionComposition defined by three vertical rows of paper sheets (5 in left section, 8 in center section, 4 in right section) glued onto the canvas surface. These sheets are black-and-white scientific illustrations taken from a book ("Second Geological Survey: Pennsylvania" as indicated by page heading). The images depict coal flora of the region. The cream colored pages are arranged against a background painted in blue-gray. These pages configure as a large "I" and "E". Darker, navy blue, loosely applied, vertical lines of paint separate the sections and appear as paint drips elsewhere. Seven large circles painted in a translucent sienna wash dot the canas surface: 2 at the top, 3 aross the center, 2 at the bottom. Letters are arranged variously over the canvas. Sometimes these are individual, at other times they form "words" such as "EEEE," "STTTTTUbb," "SRTeCH," "Joon," "Ran the," letter," and "type." Numerals and symbols appear as well.Copyright© Nate Fors
