Martial plays have been very popular in Chinese theater. Both actors and actresses played the fictional characters with equal physical prowess. These prints feature characters in martial poses in theatrical performance. On the right, two heroes rescue a lady abducted by an outlaw named Luo Sihu. On the left print, the hero Qin Qiong defeated an evil foe, who has defeated all the contenders, including a woman warrior on the left.
