"Hey, check this out!" The boy at the lower right in this scene faces directly out at us and gestures emphatically, urging us to get a better look. Created to accompany a short story in the popular periodical Harper's Weekly and full of engaging details, George Wesley Bellow's illustration shows the aftermath of a fight. The brawl set beneath the elevated "El" train near tenement housing has attracted a considerable crowd, including a policeman.
