DescriptionMostly brown glaze with highlights of turquoise green/blue and yellow moving in horizontal waves. and cratered.Gallery LabelThe work of husband and wife team Otto and Gertrud Natzler embodies the story of a personal and professional collaboration that was expressed in thinly potted, vibrantly colored and richly textured ceramics. The Natzlers fled Vienna, Austria, as Nazi forces advanced in 1938, arriving in America with little more than their potter's wheel and kiln. Here, they persevered with little training or money. Gertrud’s classic ceramic vessels combined with Otto's complex glazes and firing techniques produce pieces that invite close looking.
