Unlike many projects Christo and Jeanne-Claude undertook, Wrapped Walk Ways did not require extensive permits and years of meetings because the Kansas City Board of Parks and Recreation was free to determine what it allowed in Loose Park. Presentations and conversations were nevertheless part of the process.
In a meeting documented by photographer Wolfgang Volz, Christo (center) discusses their proposal. A photograph within Volz’s photograph shows Running Fence, a 24.5-mile project Christo and Jeanne-Claude installed in California’s Sonoma and Marin counties two years earlier. Perhaps Christo brought it as proof that 2.7 miles in Loose Park would prove no challenge.
