DescriptionImage of a field of thriving green plants above a stretch of red soil which has vertical cuts on its face and leads down to a lighter pathway.Gallery LabelThe red-orange tint of sandy red clay distinguishes Alabama soil. Ross references that attribute in this photograph but pictures the dirt bulldozed into a pile, rather than as an idyllic feature of the Southern landscape. Etched into the soil's surface, the word "Political" prompts us to consider the land as a scarred socio-political space, with a history of racial violence and environmental destruction.
