The subject of Man from Orizaba—described in Dehn’s signature caricature-like style—stands before a field of agave. The snow-capped volcano Citlaltépetl, the highest mountain in Mexico, rises in the distance. In his 1950 book, How to Draw Prints and Lithographs, Dehn explained that he shaved the lithographic stone with a razor blade before applying the ink in order to create the wispy clouds over the valley.
