DescriptionThis 6-color lithograph is a proof for Strange Bird has a mottled blue and grey background. White figures with touches of red and yellow. The strange bird of the title is placed in the upper left corner. It is seen in three-quarter view running to the right, its short wings outstretched. Its proper left leg reaches forward and its much longer proper right leg bends back. It appears to have an angry grimace and wear a red and white stovepipe hat. In the upper right corner, a man with bushy black hair, a grimace for a mouth, a white suit and yellow necktie. He appears to kick his proper right foot to the side. Below him in the lower right corner, a man in blue shorts stands on his proper left leg with his right leg crossed casually over it, the sole of his shoe visible. Instead of a head, he appears to have a fishbowl with the figure of a dog facing left. He holds up two small figures. Below them, what appears to be an unattached pair of legs running to the right. In the lower left corner, a potted plan sprouts leaves shaped like ducks’ heads and necks.Provenance
