DescriptionA multi-figural hard-paste porcelain group consisting of the central group of Christ on an ebonized wooden cross applied with a gilt-edged porcelain banner inscribed"'I.N.R.I.," mounted on a rockwork base with an applied skull and bones and clumps of leaves and flowers, with the figure of Mary Magdalene kneeling and embracing the cross; flanked by separate figures of the Virgin Mary and St. John, whose cloaks are decorated with gilt flower sprigs. The accompanying contemporary fitted leather case is embossed with foliate scrollwork heightened in gilding.Exhibition History
