In 2016, Rahim Fortune traveled to Greenville, Mississippi, to photograph a rodeo for the first time. He discovered a group of people, “pure and authentic,” who fully embraced the culture and its fashion. The young girl with a radiant smile in this photograph posed for one of the first photographs he made that evening.
Fortune continues to photograph this rodeo circuit, often meeting the same people. He tries whenever possible to give the people he has photographed of a print of their own. As he relays: “I really, really enjoy being able to do that … it’s extremely special.”
