DescriptionCoiled red snack with yellow scales on its belly faces right, its head in profile with one black eye visible.Gallery LabelSince the mid-1980s, snakes have slithered into Robert Stackhouse’s art. “I was aware of others in his paintings and prints, and wanted to do a snake with him,” Michael Sims recalls.
Ruby Lawrence is evidence of nuanced conversations and collaborative decision-making: “To create texture, we combined three red inks and yellow. We chose brown rather than black ink for the keystone [stone with the primary drawing] to keep the shadows connected to the skin. We spent an afternoon debating paper colors before printing the primary edition on white and a smaller, secondary edition on buff [light yellow-brown].”
