DescriptionImage of a building painted yellow, pink and white with a hand-painted sign in the front yard that reads "The True Gospel is Preached Here". White plastic chairs and artificial potted flowers line the porch.Gallery LabelThis bright, chock-a-block display of biblical texts and exhortations is the creation of Reverend H.D. and Margaret Dennis of Vicksburg, Mississippi. The elderly couple transformed Margaret’s former grocery store into a non-denominational church and a site for the couple’s self-taught artistic expression. Fascinated by the colorful and creative forms, photographer Bruce West took a series of photographs, titling his works after one sign that promised: “The True Gospel Preached Here.”
