DescriptionImage of a metal sign depicting a smiling man wearing a cap and holding his gloved hand up to signal "stop". The sign is covered in rust spots.Gallery LabelThis detail of a metal crossing guard sign is cut in the shape of a smiling traffic cop. His white teeth, pockmarked with rust, appear to be eroding, as do other portions of the man’s cap, face, and whitegloved hand. By emphasizing this deterioration, Dow underscored his interest in cultural fragments in the process of disappearing.
