DescriptionThe painting is a close-up view of a pigeon--with a white body and blue-green head--in flight over a distant urban landscape. The freely painted view, which consists of a river traversed by two bridges and flanked by tall buildings, is confined to the bottom fifth of the canvas and is dominated by rusty reds, teal and ochre. Near the top of the canvas, the sky is blue and streaking rain descends upon the city at the lower right.Published ReferencesPatricia Junker et al., John Steuart Curry: Inventing the Middle
