François Joseph Édouard de Campigneulles, a documentary photographer who created striking compositions, photographed in the Middle East in 1857–1858. While numerous French photographers went to the Middle East in the 1850s, Campigneulles received special praise for the artistry of his vision and the technical perfection of his prints.
