DescriptionThis manuscript box is a low, rectangular-shaped container with a hinged lid. It sits in a gilt wooden stand with lions at the base of each leg-support. It is covered in gilt lacquer, and is decorated with registers of rosettes, created from pink and clear glass beads and white and blue sequins, set in alternating medallions and diamonds along the sides and top. Lines of inscriptions in round Burmese script are evident on the sides of the lid. The decoration of the settings and the molded designs is exceedingly fine.Exhibition HistoryMore than Words: The Art of Calligraphy Across Asia, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, October 21, 2017-July 8, 2018, no cat.
