DescriptionImage of woman standing in grass with head and shoulders slumped forward so that her hair covers her entire face.Gallery LabelIssei Suda pictures mysterious moments taken from his everyday life in Japan. His square format street views of Tokyo from the 1970s and 1980s, as seen in this photograph, often picture subjects caught in awkward, private moments. Suda views these pictures as personal perspectives on life in a city that holds on to certain traditions while constantly changing. Suda has said that photography allows him to “observe things objectively without getting deeply involved…it can be quite fun because I can construct my own drama in my mind.”
