DescriptionImage of incongruous juxtaposition of woman's legs with bare feet on tile and an arm floating in water above.Exhibition History
Rotation 22. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art,
Kansas City, MO, August 10, 2016- January 8, 2017, no cat.
Unusual vantage points and cropping transform these subjects—bodies moving through ordinary, architectural spaces—into uncanny situations. Such photographs transcend mere description, and instead spark subconscious or dream-like associations. British photographer Paul Hill was trained as a photojournalist. In the mid-1970s, however, he turned toward a more personal form of artistic practice. These two photographs date to that transitional time in his career.
