Gallery Label

Photographers working in the Pictorialist style often used soft-focus lenses and expensive or complex printing techniques to achieve moody, atmospheric, and subjective ends. Their emphasis was on poetic suggestion rather than documentary description. This work by Yarnall Abbott exemplifies the Pictorialist aesthetic of the early 20th century.
