Gallery LabelIsolated and hovering like an apparition upon the white page, Paul Klee’s Bearded Man is both formed and formless. The hundreds of quick, stippled marks that make up the head, ears, eyes, nose, mouth, beard, neck, shoulders and chest merge with the surrounding space to evoke the fragility, uncertainty and brevity of existence. Klee’s nameless man is stardust coalesced for a moment in infinite space-time.
