DescriptionHorizontal in format, this painting depicts a bucolic English landscape on a spring or summer day. In the foreground, a white dog and pair of men with fishing nets stand or kneel on a dirt road beside a small pond with a wooden lock and embankment. Directly behind the figures are large, tall trees with dense green foliage that cast shadows along the path, and divide the composition vertically from left to right. The middle ground on the left side is obscured by dense foliage. On the right, the middle ground is composed of a small pond or stream and an open, grassy field. Low rolling hills can be seen in the background. The sky is composed mostly of white clouds through which patches of blue sky and sunlight break.Exhibition History
