DescriptionImage of young man with hand on chin looking towards his right while older man talks to him.Exhibition HistoryRotation 23. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City,
MO, January 18 – May 28, 2017, no cat.
Michael Torosian turns his camera on two foreground faces, rendering the surrounding world as a shadowy blur. Torosian is a multitalented artist, publisher, writer, and curator. Under the imprint of Lumiere Press, he has been producing elegant limited-edition photographic books since the 1980s. He studied at Ryerson University with photographer Dave Heath, and Heath’s approach to street photography is evident in early works, such as this, by Torosian. A consummate craftsman himself, Torosian contributed an essay on Heath’s printmaking skills in the Nelson-Atkins’ recent book, Multitude, Solitude: The Photographs of Dave Heath (2015).
