DescriptionImage of gridded concrete structure with metal ladder along right edge.Gallery LabelToshio Shibata has long been interested in outdoor structures built to control nature. In this bird’s eye view of Coolidge Dam, Shibata renders the concrete slabs as an abstraction of angled surfaces. A staircase that might, at eye level, appear secure, seems far more tenuous in this image, as if made of tiny matchsticks.
