DescriptionThe sculpture is created in the form of a rosary or strand of prayer beads, which are commonly used throughout the Islamic world for personal prayer and ritual. The object consists of a strand of 37 small stone beads. The stones are dark orange-ish red in color, and are likely either carnelian or sard, two semi-precious stones commonly used for rosaries and jewelry in the Middle East. The strand terminates with a lock of wavy, dark brown hair, tied with gold-wrapped thread. The hair is attributed by the artist as being a lock of her mother’s hair.Exhibition History
