This photograph, made while Dow was a graduate student at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) studying with Harry Callahan, reflects Callahan’s influence. The rich tonal contrast, featuring crisp whites and deep shadows, and its central architectural subject recall Callahan’s Chicago pictures of the late 1940s.

 

This print is one of twenty-one photographs included in a limited edition RISD student portfolio produced annually.
