Picasso starts to paint plates. Above is bronze head of Dora Maar. African statue at left bought in Paris in early 1900's. Head of bronze crane (1951), whose body is broken blade of shovel, neck an old steel cable, topknot a gas-pipe turncock. Feet are old forks; beak is part of forceps wrench. Painted later.
