In this body of work, Thorne-Thomsen seeks to metaphorically align the human subconscious with the ocean’s vast expanse. Taking inspiration from Italian Renaissance portraits, she merges portraiture and landscape. To make these works, she layers negatives and silhouette cutouts. The resulting images suggest the power of imagination and appear to turn the physical world into a realm of dreams and mystery.
