The unsightly subject is part of the series Automotive Landscapes, for which Anthony Hernandez photographed gas stations, parking lots, and repair shops throughout his native Los Angeles. Hernandez is particularly interested in the cultural differences of class and race that are implied in these social landscapes, though he maintains a coolly detached observational style so as not to overtly impart any personal interpretation of the subject matter.
