This picture, taken in the coastal Japanese town of Minamisanriku, lays bare the damage wrought by a tsunami that devastated the northeast coast of Japan on March 11, 2011. The natural disaster killed tens of thousands, destroyed towns, and damaged a nuclear power plant in Fukushima. Photographer Kozo Miyoshi, who has drawn inspiration from this region for years, returned a few weeks after the event to photograph the damaged terrain. Miyoshi’s print is part of a portfolio memorializing the event and sold to raise money for its victims.
