DescriptionImage of the corner of a room with spray painted walls and a strip of wood with exposed nails leaning against the wall.Gallery LabelIn his series Vandalism, John Divola explores the idea that photographs can function simultaneously as evidence and artifice. Defying conventional documentary standards to record subjects as they are found, Divola photographed derelict sites after moving objects and marking spaces with spray paint. These transformations, once photographed, obscure spatial depth and light sources, confusing our understanding of these interiors.
