DescriptionVintage c-print. Courthouse bench with framed American flag hanging on wall.Gallery LabelDuring his brief artistic career in the 1980s, Bruce Wrighton photographed working-class subjects in and around his home in the city of Binghamton, in upstate New York. In these spare, architectural interiors, Wrighton focused on certain symbolic elements of the minimal décor, such as the American flag and the painted image of Jesus Christ. By giving these familiar icons formal significance within his composition, Wrighton encourages us to contemplate the way these symbols function as a means to transcend mundane environments.
