DescriptionLandscape depicting several people parachuting down from the sky over a verdant green field.Gallery LabelIn this image, colorful paragliders soar through the air above the lush green countryside of West Sussex, in southeastern England. A windswept, cloud-filled sky fills Simon Roberts’s large-scale composition. He drew upon the Romantic tradition of English landscape painting, paying homage to the beauty of the natural terrain and the gentle pleasures it affords those who live there. The scene derives from the series We English, produced between 2007 and 2008 as Roberts traveled in a motorhome, photographing people engaged in everyday leisure activities.
