DescriptionThe imperial seal is made of heavy gilt copper alloy on a carved wooden stand. The seal top is finely cast with eight dragons and clouds in low relief and one dragon functioning as the handle is in high-relief. The frontal edge of the seal is engraved with the casting date of seal. The seal face is carved with intaglio inscription and painted in vermillion. The main inscription is the second of a series of eight poems, Autumn Meditations, composed in 766 by the Tang dynasty poet, Du Fu (712-770). The calligrapher, Liu Yong (1719 or 1720-1804), transcribed the classic poem and signed in archaic seal scripts.
