InscribedOn mount verso, center, in black type: "Piazzetta vue de la mer, Gondole Vénitienne./ commençant de la guache; Palais Ducal, Pont de la Paglia, Prisons, Palais Bernardo, aujourd'hui Hôtel Danieli, Palais de la Prefecture, Quai des Esclavons. Au premier plan la Gondole Vénitienne, objet fort curieux pour l'étranger. De construction légère, longu près de 30 pieds, très-étroite et sans quille, avec un fer a six dentelures à la proue, elle semble glisser sur les eaux, pousée par l'adresse proverbial de ses gondoliers. Dans le commencement cette barque servait en guerre. Plus tard fur convertie à l'usage des familles, et le luxe don't on la para parvint à un tel point qu'un décret de la République ordonna que dorénavant elle devrait être toute noire, cuoleur gardée jusqu'à nos jours."
