In his Local Stories series, Jerry Spagnoli views the details of daily life in a much larger context, focusing on the universal constant of the daily path of the sun overhead. To make this body of work, Spagnoli put an extreme wide-angle lens on a large 8x10-inch camera. The sun is located in the center of every image, becoming the vortex of every view. Spagnoli uses photography to do what we cannot—to look directly at the sun and to experience it as part of our field of view. The sun becomes something to be seen as well as the ultimate source of light.
