Thomas Allen has long been fascinated with books, as physical objects and for the alternative realities and knowledge they provide. To create this work, Allen used an X-Acto knife to carefully excise an illustration of a ship and arranged the book’s pages in a wave-like swell. Photographed close up to ensure a disorienting shift in scale, the still life playfully suggests a miniaturized voyage on the high seas.
