DescriptionA large, round, bowl-shaped vessel of coarse clay in various brown tones, having three male portrait heads in relief in the center of the vessel, with the names "Rudy," "Pete" and "Jim" inscribed into the bottom edge of the vessel's rim.Gallery LabelThis monumental charger tells a story about the friendship and collaboration of three giants of American contemporary ceramics. The artist Jim Leedy inserts himself between two of his best friends and fellow ceramic pioneers, Rudy Autio and Peter Voulkos. The three are credited with introducing the vibrant painting movement Abstract Expressionism to the medium of clay. Leedy has also played an important role in the development of Kansas City artists and collectors: he taught at the Kansas City Art Institute from 1964 to 2009 and established the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center/Gallery.
