DescriptionImage of old man in white shirt reaching into a flower garden while holding a hose in his left hand.Gallery LabelFor as long as I can remember Dad always grew a few tomato plants, and usually also beans, beets and spinach. He had a well-tended garden. He nursed his plants from seedlings, pulled weeds, watered, and spread mulch with patience and care. Eventually we savored ripe homegrown tomatoes. When I looked at this photo on the contact sheet, I saw a kind of energy flow between Dad and the garden. The water goes into the ground and Dad’s arm reaches devotedly toward the plants. Mom called this photo “Veins and Vines.” —Deanna Dikeman
