Gradually
my photographs began to mean something in themselves; they became records of
experiences as well as of places. —Ansel
Adams
This
image of Tenaya Lake, located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of Yosemite
Valley, showcases Ansel Adams’s deep love of this region. Adams traveled to
Yosemite almost yearly from 1916 until his death in 1984, photographing the
majestic range and its exquisite wilderness. Photographing with meticulous
attention to detail and printing with a range of tonal gradations from black to
white, Adams amplified the grandeur of Mount Conness and the billowing clouds
that fill the sky.
