DescriptionImage of a man sharpening a butcher's knife with a honing steel. He's wearing a tall hat, vest, and shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. This sixth-plate daguerreotype is housed in an oval brass mat inside of a leather covered case which is embossed with a mixed flower motif including thistles and lilies on the lid and a geometric motif on the back of the tray. The lid has a red velvet liner embossed with an ornate bracket design.
